I'm considering buying the TL-2ESpRu, but I have a few questions first:

Another poster commented about connecting his TL-2ESpRu to his computer through a USB connection, but the decription of the product doesn't mention anything about a computer hook-up. How did he do it?

Another poster was unable to get Chinese (though other languages worked fine) to speak the translated text for him, and the response (correct me if I'm wrong) is that the TL-2 can't speak Chinese translated text. Which added (SD Card) languages will be able to speak through a TL-2ESpRu?

Is it possible to connect an external keyboard to the TL-2ESpRu? I didn't see anything offered in the accessories list.

I'm also confused about the differences between the TL-2ESpRu and the TL-2SpERu. The Spanish <-> English <-> Russian unit only has 21,000 phrases, while the English <-> Spanish <-> Russian unit has 28,000 phrases but the only instructions are in French.

Thanks,
Dave

Dear customer;

You can charge itravl through USB cable, this is probably the case.

There's no pronunciation for Chinese language in text translation option only, but you can use main dictionary. However, it would work perfectly with everything else.

no, external keyboard, virtual one only.

Instruction comes in three languages Eng, Spa, and Rus. It depends on which one you would order.

Dear Customer

The correct total number of phrases in the TL-2SpERu is 21,000 i.e. 7,000 per language.

The information at our website will be corrected accordingly.

Dear green,

Thank you for your reply, but I still have some questions. Val Reaves responed to questions via E-mail and said this:

Hi David,

The TL-2ESpRu does not have any USB port and it is not possible to connect an external keyboard to the device.

The TL-2ESpRu has English, Spanish and Russian syntesized voicing for individual words.

You can also get MMC cards for the other languages you may need in the future.

Each MMC card costs $49.95 and will have all linguistic capabilities including the voice syntesis of the corresponding TL-2 series translator once installed on ECTACO iTRAVL TL-2ESpRu.

My questions are too long and I am forced to post them seperately. Sorry.

So I'm not sure which answer is correct. Val is the sales manager, but a customer was able to connect his unit to his computer via USB...

Val says that I'll get all the "capabilities including voice synthesis", but you say I won't (for Chinese only, it seems) and a customer couldn't get Chinese to work...

So assuming that I can't write a phrase and have the TL-2 speak it in Chinese, can it speak words from the dictionary? Can it speak whole phrases from its data base in Chinese (7,000 Chinese phrases)?

Can the English <--> Chinese version of the TL-2 speak phrases in Chinese that I write into it? Can I get a version of the TL-2 made that will speak whatever I write in English, Spanish, Russian, and Chinese (with English as the primary language)?

Thanks

Dear David,

If you order the MMC Card English <-> Chinese iTRAVL TL-2 for ECTACO iTRAVL TL-2ESpRu you will get all functions of the English <-> Chinese ECTACO iTRAVL TL-2Ch once you install the card.

The English <-> Chinese ECTACO iTRAVL TL-2Ch contains over 283,000 words and over 14,000 phrases. Advanced English and Chinese speech synthesis is available for all dictionary entries. Both English and Chinese human voicing is available for all phrasebook entries.

You can speak any phrase from the PhraseBook section into the unit in English and it will pronounce the translation in Chinese using a real human voice as recorded by native speakers.

You can also type in a word in English or Chinese in order to have it translated both ways. Once translated, the text can then be spoken aloud in English or Chinese using the latest text-to-speech voice synthesis.
